CACFP Meal Pattern and Reimbursement Rates
In the 1960s, the USDA learned that there was a
direct relationship between children that had a healthy,
nutritious diet and academic success. The Free and Reduced School
Lunch Program was created to help meet the nutritional needs of
growing children and establish healthy eating habits for the
future. The same Food Program was extended to day care homes and
expanded to include infants up to children 12 years of age.
The chart below shows the current reimbursement
rates for day care providers. In order to qualify for CACFP
reimbursement, a Provider must be enrolled with a Sponsor, such
as Healthy Kids, and all meals served must meet the Infant and
Child Meal Patterns below (click on the link for the current meal
pattern):

Current Reimbursement Rates
Under the CACFP Food Program, day care homes cannot charge
separate fees for meals. Higher reimbursements (tier I) are paid
to homes in low-income areas and to low-income providers. Meals
and snacks served to children who are eligible for free and
reduced-price school meals also receive higher rates of
reimbursement. From July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004, tier I and
tier II rates in Alabama are as follows:
